Srinagar, Feb 15: Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad said on Monday that Dal Lake in Srinagar is both ak168app.babyan asset and heritage which needs to be preserved for posterity. He called for a serious effort by one and alak168app.clubl to stop any further deterioration of the water body.
Inaugurating as chief guest a three-day awareness campaign under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Prof Talat said it is important to control the inflow of deleterious effluents into Dal Lake while ensuring that its water quality is maintained as per scientific norms.
The ks168app.siteawareness campaign titled ‘Good Health, Good Hygiene’ has been organised by the varsity’s Dean Students Welfare (DSW), in and around ic88areas of Dal Lake. Monday’s programme was held in Dal Lake areas falling along its Hazratbal banks.
“Academic institutions, policy-planners, NGOs and pic88eople need to join hands in this endeavour and make serious efforts to stop any further deterioration/pollution of this Lake,” he said, asserting that such awareness programmes led ic88by students can go a long way in makingic88 people understand the importance of water bodies and the need to keep them clean.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university has already constituted a high-level Working Group on Dal Lake conservationlr88 to see how it can, in association with policy-planners and civil society, contribute to Dal lake conservation.
Prof Talat also went around Dal lalr88ke areas along its Hazratbal banks and later distributed health and hygiene kits and pamphlets among local residents.
KU Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, who was a guest of honour, said a three-plr88ronged strategy—prevention, prohibition, redressal—is needed to preserve Dal Lake.
He said the university is actively focusing on addressing some of the prelr88ssing societal and environmental problems through its academic, research and outreach endeavours. “This includes Dal lake conservation as well,” he said, appreciating the DSW for organising the awarenop88ess programme.
Dean of Students Welfare Prof Raies A Qadri said the university students, who are leading this door-to-door awareness campaign, will be distributing pamphlets about the importance of good health and hygiene, among people.
“This is si88a grassroots-level cam88vpaign being organised under Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” he said.
The campaign launch event was, among others, attended by Dean Behavioural ScSEXXXXX-VNiences and Chief Proctor Prof Showket Ahmad Shah, Cultural Officer Mr Shahid Ali Khan, Junior Coordinator DSW Mr Zahid Jeelani and other staff members of the office of DSW.

Srinagar, Sept 21:jin88bet.one Dr Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, a Kashmir-born Innovation Researcher, has been invited to speak at UNGA76’s second Science Summit (United Nations General Assembly UNGA76).

Tak168app.babyhe UNGA Science Summit’s goal is to “increase awareness of science’s significance and contribution to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainaak168app.clubble Development Goals.” It will showcase efforts that will serve as examples for global science systems and activities supporting the SDGs, notably ks168app.sitein the areas of science infrastructure and capacity building.”

Dr Sheikh Fayaz, a Kupwara resident, has been asked to speak at a session on ‘South-South/North Science Capacity Building and Research Collaboration for Advancing the SDGs,’ which will take place on Septembeic88r 22, 2021.

UNGA76 is seen as a unique and prestigious forum for scienic88ce and development scholars to demonstrate “how policy and political leadership can benefit from innovation”. The second edition of UNGA76, Science Summit, is organized by ISC around the 76th Uic88nited Nations General Assembly (UNGA76) in New York in September 2021.

Dr Sheikh Fayaz is working as a full-time innovatioic88n researcher with the School of Management, Zhejiang University, one of the top public universities in China. He works on ‘secondary innovations’ and regional developlr88ment. Sheikh Fayaz holds his M.Phil and PhD from the Centre for Studies in Science Policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-India.

Prior to joining Zhlr88ejiang University, Dr Fayaz was a Visiting Scholar at the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), Portugal, under European Commission’s Crossing Boundaries Projelr88ct funded by Marie Curie Actions, International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (2014), School of Management, University of Bradford, England (lr88Oct- Nov 2014) and University of Sussex, London and Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, England, (2017). He is also a member of the Globelics community and is an alumnusop88 of various Globelics innovation academies held in Finland, Kenya and Brazil.

The other speakers for the science summit include some of the world’s leading development practitioners, researchers, scientists, and politicians from different parts of the world.
