Dir Horticulture inspects fruit nurseries in Budgam

Srinagar, Sept 24: To effectively monitor the activities being implemented by the department, Director Horticulture, Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat Thursday visited Chadoora and Chrari-e-Sharief areas of District Budgam. During the tour, the Director inspected Departmental fruit plant Nurseries which serves as the backbone of the Horticulture Sector in general and Department in particular. The persistent stress on the production of quality fruit plants have borne results and Director Horticulture expressed satisfaction on the maintenance of Departmental Nurseries.

 

During the tour, Director visited some private orchards of the area and listened to the problem faced by the orchards. Instructions were issued to the staff to visit fields regularly and address the problems faced by the orchardists. He also directed the employees to remain available in the office at least thrice a week so that orchardists visiting the office may be able to get their issues addressed.

Director Horticulture also inspected the farming handling units establish under centrally sponsored scheme MIDH where fruit crop is properly packed and store. Some vermicompost units established in the private sector, as well as small nursery established under MIDH, were also inspected.

Director advised the farmers to explore the option of top working of inferior varieties with superior cultivator as such an endeavour has shown excellent results in District Shopian. It was desired that all the new implements, tools be made available to the orchardists to reduce the requirement of manpower. Director Horticulture advised the extension agencies to make the people aware about the benefits of grading which bring the uniformity in fruits and for this Mini Grading Line shall serve as a boom. Director Horticulture also stressed for the popularization of Hi-Density Plantation among orchardists.
